Early tests show GPT-5.5 performs very well. In a benchmark that measures how well an AI can plan and coordinate tools, it scored 82.7%, beating other top models like Claude Opus 4.7 and Gemini 3.1 Pro. It also scored highly in professional tasks, with nearly 85% in a test covering 44 different jobs.
Developers say GPT-5.5 stays focused on tasks longer without stopping. For example, a company CEO used it to review thousands of tax forms, finishing two weeks faster than usual. A science professor used it to analyze large genetic data, saving months of work.
OpenAI has also put strong safety measures in place. The model has been tested thoroughly to prevent misuse, especially in sensitive areas like cybersecurity and biology. Access to some features is limited to verified security experts for now.
GPT-5.5 is rolling out to users of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. There’s also a special GPT-5.5 Pro version for more demanding tasks. Developers will soon be able to use it through an API, with safety rules in place.
This release comes as companies like Google and Meta race to develop AI that can reason, plan, and act more like humans. The goal is to move beyond simple chatbots and create AI that can handle complex workflows with little human help.
