Startup Plugzmart Plans ₹100Cr EV Expansion in Tamil Nadu

August 14, 2026: Plugzmart, an EV charging technology startup incubated at IIT Madras Research Park, has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to invest ₹100 crore in the state over the next three years.

The agreement was signed at the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026 on August 13, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay present at the event.

The planned investment will support Plugzmart’s manufacturing expansion, research and development activities, and EV charging infrastructure. The company expects the initiative to create around 500 jobs across hardware engineering, power electronics, embedded software, and advanced manufacturing.

Plugzmart Scales EV Charging Manufacturing in Tamil Nadu

A major part of the investment will go towards scaling production at Plugzmart’s manufacturing facility in Oragadam, one of Tamil Nadu’s key industrial hubs. The expansion comes as demand for EV charging infrastructure grows across passenger vehicles, commercial fleets, and public charging networks.

Plugzmart develops charging technology for automakers, fleet operators, charge point operators, and public infrastructure projects. Its product portfolio covers charging hardware ranging from 3.3 kW AC chargers to 360 kW DC charging systems.

The startup also develops indigenous controller units and power line communication modules, giving it capabilities across several layers of the EV charging hardware stack.

With the new investment, Plugzmart plans to increase its manufacturing capacity while strengthening its R&D operations in Tamil Nadu. The expansion could also support the company’s efforts to serve the growing EV market through locally developed charging technology.
