ALIMCO to Open ₹45Cr Uplifting Assistive Device Centre in Tripura

February 28, 2025: Purba Laxmibill, Sepahijala District, Tripura — A new Rs. 45 Crore ALIMCO life-enhancing Assistive Device project in Tripura is set to become a cornerstone for both manufacturing and distribution of assistive devices, providing a much-needed boost for the region.

The assistive device manufacturing in the North-East, will be set up by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India , a public sector undertaking under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This project is all set to inaugurate its first-ever Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC) in Purba Laxmibill, Sepahijala District, Tripura.

Scheduled for a Bhumi Pujan and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony on March 1, 2025, the facility promises to not only enhance accessibility to essential assistive devices for persons with disabilities but also create significant employment opportunities for the local workforce. This strategic move aligns with the Indian Government’s broader agenda of promoting inclusivity and regional development, particularly for the North-Eastern states.

The new Auxiliary Production Centre is designed to address the unique demands of the North-East by providing a local, efficient production and distribution channel. This will reduce logistical challenges while ensuring that people with disabilities in the region have better access to life-enhancing devices such as artificial limbs, hearing aids, and other specialized assistive tools.

The upcoming ceremony will be graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including the Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, along with Shri B.L. Verma, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. Additionally, Shri Tinku Roy, Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Tripura, Shri Biplab Dev, Member of Parliament, West Tripura, and Shri Sushanta Deb, MLA of Bishalgarh, will also be in attendance, underscoring the significance of this project.

A major factor in the success of this project has been the pivotal role played by the Tripura State Government in facilitating land acquisition for the facility in Sepahijala District. The process was expedited with valuable guidance from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India.

The establishment of this facility aligns with ALIMCO’s broader mission of promoting social inclusion and ensuring that people with disabilities have equal access to resources, opportunities, and services. With this new production centre, ALIMCO is paving the way for greater regional empowerment, contributing directly to the socio-economic upliftment of the people in the North-East.

In addition to its social impact, the Centre will bring long-term economic benefits by generating employment for the local community, with ALIMCO’s senior management, including Shri Praveen Kumar, CMD of ALIMCO, and Shri A. K Pandey, Deputy Secretary, DEPwD, among those present for the occasion.

This facility is an important milestone in ALIMCO’s journey towards making India a more inclusive nation, where people with disabilities can lead empowered, independent lives.
