PM Lauds MUDRA: 70% Women Beneficiaries, Tarun Plus Launched

New Delhi, April 8, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), highlighting the scheme’s significant impact on marginalized communities and women entrepreneurs. As the scheme marks a decade of success, PM Modi emphasized that 50% of its beneficiaries belong to SC, ST, and OBC communities, and over 70% are women, underscoring MUDRA’s role in fostering inclusivity and economic empowerment across India.

Launched with Prime Minister’s vision of “Funding the Unfunded”, PMMY extends collateral-free loans to small enterprises that face significant challenges in accessing formal institutional credit.

In a series of tweets shared on X, the Prime Minister congratulated the millions whose lives have been transformed by MUDRA, which has provided financial support to individuals who were previously excluded from mainstream credit systems.

“Today, as we mark #10YearsOfMUDRA, I congratulate all those whose lives have been transformed thanks to this scheme,” Modi said. “Mudra Yojana has turned several dreams into reality, empowering people who were previously overlooked with the financial support to shine. It illustrates that for the people of India, nothing is impossible!”

10YearsOfMUDRA: Modi Highlights Mudra Yojana’s Financial Inclusion, 50% SC/ST/OBC Beneficiaries, 70% Women Impacted

Since its inception in 2015, the MUDRA Yojana has been at the forefront of promoting financial inclusion. The scheme has particularly benefitted marginalized communities, with half of the total beneficiaries coming from SC, ST, and OBC categories. This focus on social inclusion has allowed people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access credit, thereby enabling them to start and expand businesses, create jobs, and improve their livelihoods.

PM Modi also celebrated the remarkable participation of women in the scheme, stating that over 70% of the beneficiaries are women, highlighting MUDRA’s role in empowering women entrepreneurs and promoting gender equality.

“Every Mudra loan carries with it dignity, self-respect, and opportunity. In addition to financial inclusion, this scheme has ensured social inclusion and economic freedom,” the Prime Minister added.

MUDRA Yojana: A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the ecosystem for aspiring entrepreneurs. “Our Government will continue focusing on ensuring a robust ecosystem where every aspiring entrepreneur has access to credit, giving them confidence and a chance to grow,” Modi stated.

PMMY provides easy collateral-free loans up to ₹20 lakh for non-corporate and non-farm income-generating activities. PMMY extended over ₹33.65 lakh crore through 52.37 crore loans, instilling a new sense of confidence among borrowers.

The MUDRA Yojana has played a critical role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), fostering entrepreneurship, and contributing to India’s economic growth over the past decade. New Loan Category Tarun Plus Launched

The Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), launched on 8th April 2015 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, celebrates 10 glorious years of empowering small and micro-entrepreneurs across India. Aimed at fostering financial inclusion, PMMY provides easy collateral-free loans up to ₹10 lakh for non-corporate and non-farm income-generating activities.

To strengthen support for aspiring entrepreneurs, the Finance Minister announced an increase in the loan limit to ₹20 lakh during the Union Budget 2024-25 on July 23, 2024. This new limit took effect on October 24, 2024.These loans are extended through Banks, NBFCs, MFIs, and other financial institutions.

The newly announced loan category, Tarun Plus, is designed specifically for those who have previously availed and successfully repaid loans under the Tarun category, allowing them to access funding between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh. Additionally, the Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units (CGFMU) will now provide guarantee coverage for these enhanced loans, further reinforcing the government’s commitment to nurturing a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in India.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role as ancillary units, complementing large industries and significantly contributing to the country’s inclusive industrial growth. These enterprises are continually expanding their presence across various sectors of the economy, offering a diverse array of products and services to meet both domestic and international market demands.
