August 22, 2025: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is accelerating the growth of India’s food processing sector through three major initiatives: the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME).
These schemes, designed to promote infrastructure development, enhance food processing capacity, and support MSMEs, have made significant strides in bolstering the industry. With a focus on providing financial support and technical training, MoFPI is helping food processing enterprises across the country, including regions like Bihar, unlock new growth potential.
MoFPI Supports 13 Projects, 25K Proposals
In addition, MoFPI has been focusing on capacity building through training programs. Under PMFME, 1.16 lakh beneficiaries, including trainers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders, have been trained to enhance skills and knowledge in the food processing industry. These programs are crucial for supporting entrepreneurship development and product-specific skills that align with industry demands.
In Bihar alone, the government has approved 13 projects under PMKSY, 7 proposals under PLISFPI, and an impressive 25,349 proposals under the PMFME scheme as of June 2025. This concerted effort aims to boost local food processing capacity, generate employment, and improve the overall infrastructure of the food processing sector in the state.
By incentivizing the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, these initiatives play a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of food processing units across India, making a significant contribution to the country’s economy.
Shri Ravneet Singh, the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, shared these details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, highlighting the ongoing developments and the government’s commitment to fostering a robust food processing industry.
