Bengaluru, February 3, 2024 – TEC and DOT organised impactful awareness program in Bengaluru today. Targeted at startups and companies in the telecommunications sector, the event focused on enlightening participants about the mandatory testing and certification of telecom equipment (MTCTE) and various voluntary certifications
The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), event was well attended and received by the participants, and left benefiting impact. The program was held at the ITI Complex in Bengaluru on February 2, 2024.
Targeted at startups and companies in the telecommunications sector, the event focused on enlightening participants about the mandatory testing and certification of telecom equipment (MTCTE) and various voluntary certifications.
Approximately 70 participants from startups and MSMEs joined the event, alongside DOT LSA officers, ITI, and CDOT representatives. This initiative seeks to create awareness among emerging businesses about The Telecommunication Engineering Centre schemes, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat set by the Prime Minister. The session emphasized new initiatives such as reduced cost certification and SCS certification tailored for startups and MSMEs.
The Digital Communication Commission (DCC) made a groundbreaking move on December 29, 2023, by launching online modules for Certificate of Approval (CoA) and Technology Approval under TEC’s voluntary certification scheme. Developed by CDOT, these modules aim to boost Ease of Doing Business and promote Atmanirbhar Bharat. The modules for Type/Interface approval were made operational in July 2023, streamlining the testing and certification process for startups and MSMEs in the Telecom and related ICT sector.
TEC Telecom Startup Boost : 75% Faster, 80% Cheaper for 37 Products
TEC’s recent move on January 2, 2024, brought 37 additional products under the Simplified Certification Scheme, reducing the certification time from eight weeks to just two weeks. This includes products such as media gateways, IP security equipment, IP terminals, optical fiber or cable, and transmission Terminal Equipment.
The decision to charge only an administrative fee for Essential Requirement (ER) based applications under MTCTE, irrespective of GCS and SCS category, has significantly reduced the compliance burden, offering over an 80% reduction in application fees for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and applicants.
At present, 59 Telecom & Networking products have been notified under the MTCTE regime, marking a significant step towards fostering a conducive environment for innovation and growth in the telecom sector. The seamless online application process for various certificates further enhances the credibility of products from startups and MSMEs in this dynamic industry.
Organized in collaboration with ITI under the chairmanship of N Murali Krishna DDG RTEC Bengaluru, the event had notable figures like PK Panda, Director The Telecommunication Engineering Centre ; Sunil Kumar, Director Technology, DOT; LSA officers, Ms Lata, AGM, and Ms Alli Rani, DGM ITI in attendance. Dr. Prasanth DDG CA highlighted TEC’s Test as Service Platform and the significance of IPR, SEP, and ESG through remote participation.
