July 23, 2026: Hyderabad: Fintech infrastructure startup VIYONA has received approval from the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to operate as a Customer Operating Unit (COU), expanding its capabilities to offer interoperable digital bill payment services to banks, financial institutions, enterprises, and government organisations.
The Hyderabad-based company said the certification enables it to support BBPS-powered bill payments across categories including electricity, water, gas, broadband, mobile recharges, DTH subscriptions, insurance premiums, loan EMIs, educational fees, and other approved billers.
The approval comes as India’s digital payments ecosystem continues to evolve beyond person-to-person transactions, with increasing focus on recurring and utility payments. For infrastructure providers, BBPS certification has become an important gateway to serving banks, fintech companies, and enterprises looking to integrate standardised bill payment services into their platforms.
According to VIYONA, the certification will allow banks, NBFCs, fintech companies, enterprises, and government organisations to integrate bill payment capabilities through its platform, enabling them to deliver secure and seamless payment experiences to customers.
Beyond Bill Payments: Why the Certification Matters for Viyona Fintech
“Digital payments have become an integral part of everyday life, and the demand for scalable, interoperable financial infrastructure continues to grow,” said Ravindranath Yarlagadda, Founder and CEO of VIYONA Fintech.
“With the BBPS COU certification, we are expanding our ability to help banks, fintechs, enterprises, and billers deliver seamless bill payment experiences at scale. For users, this translates into a more convenient, reliable, and trusted way to manage everyday payments,” he added.
The certification also expands VIYONA’s portfolio of NPCI-approved payment capabilities. The company now holds certifications across UPI Switch (Issuer and Acquirer), IMPS, Banking Connect, BOU, eKYC Setu, and BBPS COU, positioning it as a full-stack payments technology provider for banks, billers, and financial institutions.
While consumer-facing payment apps dominate India’s fintech landscape, the underlying infrastructure that powers payment acceptance, settlement, and bill payments is increasingly becoming a competitive space. As banks and enterprises look to launch digital financial products faster, infrastructure providers with multiple NPCI certifications are better positioned to offer integrated payment services through a single technology stack.
BBPS has emerged as a key component of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), providing a standardised framework for interoperable bill payments across sectors. For fintech infrastructure companies such as VIYONA, becoming a BBPS Customer Operating Unit expands their role from enabling payment processing to supporting a broader range of regulated payment services.
Beyond payments, VIYONA is also building technology platforms spanning merchant solutions, financial infrastructure, and agritech, with the aim of connecting banks, businesses, merchants, and agricultural stakeholders through a unified digital ecosystem.
