July 11, 2024: The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has greenlit seven pioneering projects under its Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme. These initiatives, focused on fostering innovation and self-reliance, have been awarded to a mix of start-ups and established enterprises, underscoring DRDO’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and technology.
The projects encompass critical advancements in simulation training, unmanned systems, radar technology, and smart textiles, promising to enhance the operational readiness and technological edge of the Indian Armed Forces.
These newly sanctioned projects are strategically aligned with DRDO’s vision to empower MSMEs and start-ups, driving innovation within India’s defence ecosystem. Each project addresses specific technological needs, from developing advanced simulation toolkits for pilot training to creating unmanned aerial vehicles for underwater operations.

Among the awarded projects, Oxygen 2 Innovation Pvt Ltd of Noida will develop an indigenous simulation toolkit for pilot training, enhancing mission planning and engagement capabilities. Pune-based Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt Ltd will focus on an underwater launched unmanned aerial vehicle for versatile marine battlefield applications. IROV Technologies Pvt Limited from Kochi will work on long-range remotely operated vehicles designed to detect and neutralize underwater threats.
Meanwhile, Craftlogic Labs Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru will develop an in-flight ice detection sensor to ensure aircraft safety. Each of these projects reflects the diverse and innovative approaches being taken to address the multifaceted challenges faced by the defence and aerospace sectors.
Further enhancing India’s technological prowess, Data Pattern (India) Limited in Chennai will develop a radar signal processor with an active antenna array simulator, crucial for testing and evaluating short-range aerial weapon systems. Bengaluru’s Accord Software & Systems Pvt Ltd will work on a timing acquisition and dissemination system based on the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, ensuring precise and reliable timing for various defence applications.
Lastly, Alohatech Private Limited in Coimbatore will explore the development of graphene-based smart and E-textiles, promising multifunctional wearable applications that integrate advanced nanocomposite materials. These projects not only demonstrate DRDO’s dedication to self-reliance but also highlight the significant role of Indian enterprises in advancing defence technologies.
These seven projects sanctioned by DRDO symbolize a significant step towards achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.
