AM Green Raises Greenko Stake to 25% to Scale Clean Energy

Hyderabad, India – June 30, 2025: In a major clean energy play, AM Green Group has announced it is acquiring a 17.5% equity stake in Greenko Energy Holdings from Japan’s ORIX Corporation. This move increases AM Green’s total stake in Greenko to approximately 25%, marking a major step in building one of the world’s most integrated and scalable green energy platforms.

The deal was signed through AM Green’s subsidiary, AM Green Power BV, and is expected to close in July 2025.

But that’s not all, ORIX is also investing in a convertible note in AM Green’s parent company, gaining long-term exposure to the booming green hydrogen and ammonia sectors. This aligns with ORIX’s strategy of recycling capital into next-gen sustainable technologies.

“This deal is a key milestone in creating a fully integrated global green energy platform,” said Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder & CEO of AM Green Group.

What Makes This AM Green Group’s Deal Big

  • AM Green now owns 25% of Greenko, one of India’s top renewable energy companies with over 10 GW of operational assets.
  • Greenko is building a 100 GWh energy storage cloud, one of the largest globally, ready by 2030.
  • AM Green is constructing a 1 MTPA green ammonia plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, part of a larger plan to produce 5 MTPA.
  • The company is also developing SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), low-carbon chemicals, and bio-based products.

The Bigger Picture for Startups and Climate Tech

Founded in 2023 by the co-founders of Greenko, AM Green Group is racing ahead to build a Power-to-X platform that connects renewable energy, energy storage, and green molecules like hydrogen and ammonia. It even has its own electrolyzer gigafactory underway and partnerships with global companies like Uniper SE and Yara Clean Ammonia.

With India positioning itself as a green hydrogen hub, AM Green Group is emerging as a startup powerhouse to watch—not just in India, but globally.
