New regulations for data protection and technology in the offing in India

The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in the parliament stated, that the Government wants to provide its citizens with an open, trustworthy, and accountable internet. In order to accomplish our goals, India will include new legislation and rule revisions.

Rajeev stated his Ministry continues to hold discussions with the relevant stakeholders, including business leaders, attorneys, and academicians. Throughout this process of consultation, this Ministry has received a lot of ideas.

The current Information Technology Act was passed in 2000, which is 22 years ago. Since then, technology and the internet have developed extremely quickly. The opportunity in the cyberspace and the difficulties it presents have changed paradigms in ways that were not anticipated in 2000.

The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, provided this information in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
