In a resounding endorsement of India’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal asserted that startups are instrumental in propelling India towards the status of a developed nation by 2047. Speaking at the Startup Awards & State Ranking Awards function in New Delhi, Shri Goyal applauded the remarkable strides made by startups over the past eight years, emphasizing their transformation from a novelty to an integral component of the national mainstream.
Highlighting the diverse sectors contributing to India’s startup boom, Shri Goyal noted the substantial impact in MedTech, FinTech, AgroTech, aviation, drones, and simulators. He specifically pinpointed tourism as an untapped sector with vast potential, encouraging startups to explore innovative ideas for sustainable tourism. The Minister also underscored the significance of the ‘Wed-in-India’ initiative proposed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, emphasizing the PM’s vision for New Age Skills, Futuristic Tech, AI, and Innovation, as stated at Vibrant Gujarat.
Expressing unwavering confidence in the entrepreneurial spirit across generations, Shri Goyal urged both the young and old to contribute their unique perspectives and ideas to the startup ecosystem. He stressed that age should not hinder engagement with new ideas and fostering innovation, encouraging individuals of all ages to actively participate in the startup landscape, recognizing the potential of every person to contribute to India’s growth.
Acknowledging India’s rise as the third-largest global startup ecosystem, Shri Goyal lauded achievements in sectors like millets and food processing. He urged startups to explore new horizons, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), and develop ideas that simplify life and revolutionize existing practices.
In outlining future initiatives to support startups, Shri Goyal detailed plans for categorizing startups into specific sectors, data sanitization for location tracking and developmental stage monitoring, and ensuring all startups are registered on the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) portal.
The Minister called for enhanced collaboration and mentoring through the MAARG portal, emphasizing outreach and onboarding startups with the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). Shri Goyal encouraged startups to avail patent, copyright, and trademark protections, highlighting the reduced fees for startups.
Exciting news for the startup community came with the announcement of the ‘Startup Maha Kumbh’ scheduled for March 2024. Shri Goyal reassured continued government support, inviting entrepreneurs to capitalize on the vast consumer market and collaborate towards transitioning from an emerging to a developed startup system.
